Devon Tiles in a Grand Designs house

Sealing tiles

Last night, we were thrilled to spot our tiles while watching the final episode in the current series of Channel 4’s Grand Designs! The episode was a revisit to a cob castle built just up the road from us in Ottery St Mary.

Grand Designs first followed Kevin McCabe, a master in the ancient art of cob building, in 2011. Kevin wanted to build one of the biggest houses Grand Designs has ever seen and planned to make most of it with his bare hands. He didn’t just want to build a cob house but a cob castle measuring an enormous 10,000 square feet!

Unfortunately, having been hit by some of the wettest weather on record Kevin’s epic project ground to a halt. When Kevin McCloud last visited the site in 2013, there were no windows, and not one room in the house was habitable.

In last night’s episode, we were treated to a tour of the now finished, stunning 10,000 square foot cob castle. As we supplied all the floor tiles for this project it was exciting to see them in situ. We think you’ll agree that all Kevin’s hard work paid off and he has created a beautiful home.
